Dental bonding is one option for repairing a chipped tooth. If this happened to you recently, we encourage you to call Aspenwood Dental Associates and Colorado Dental Implant Center to discuss your options and schedule an appointment. As of May 8th, 2020, our dental office is again accepting dental checkups and hygiene appointments. We are operating within the guidelines of local officials and have developed additional protocols to keep you and our staff safe and healthy.
Why Fix a Chipped Tooth?
For one, a chipped tooth tends to be aesthetically undesirable. If the chip is hurting your self-esteem, an option like dental bonding is an easy, convenient way to restore the tooth’s shape.
Secondly, a chip or a crack could lead to tooth decay, infection or further damage to the tooth. These situations usually apply to large and/or deep chips and cracks.
It is a good idea to have our dentists examine the chipped tooth. That way, you’ll know what options are available, how much they will cost and what the possibilities are if you delay or opt out of treatment.
The Dental Bonding Process
Dental bonding is an option for most minor chips. The entire process can be completed in one dental appointment, without the need for anesthesia in most cases.
“Bonding” refers to both a process and a material. The material is composite resin. The resin is soft and malleable at first, similar to putty, so our dentists sculpt and shape it directly on the tooth to look aesthetically pleasing. Once it looks good, we use a light to harden it, a process called “curing.” At this point, the treatment is complete and you can leave our office with your restored smile ready to show off to the world.
Depending on the size, depth and nature of the tooth breakage, dental fillings or a tooth crown may be other options. Porcelain veneers are a great way to cover a chip while also improving the entire appearance of the tooth.
