What To Do During Your Emergency
If You Have Severe Toothache
Start by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water to help alleviate discomfort and cleanse the area. Follow this by taking an over-the-counter pain medication to manage the pain.
If You Have Knocked-Out a Tooth
Carefully pick it up by the crown, avoiding the root, and gently rinse it with milk or saline solution. If possible, try to reinsert the tooth into its socket and gently bite down on a clean cloth to hold it in place. If this isn't possible, place the tooth in milk until you can get to our office.
If You Have Broken or Cracked a Tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water immediately! To help reduce swelling, apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek and, if there's bleeding, place a clean gauze over the area. Remember to bring any broken pieces of your tooth with you to your dental appointment.
If You Have Lost a Filling or Crown
Cover your exposed tooth with sugar-free gum or dental wax to protect it. It's also important to avoid chewing on that side of your mouth until you can see a dentist.
If You Suspect Having an Abscess
It's crucial to rinse your mouth with mild salt water several times to help with cleanliness and discomfort. Do not try to puncture the abscess yourself, as this can worsen the infection and lead to more serious complications.
