Sedation Dentistry
in Aurora and Denver, Colorado
Sedation dentistry is an option many people are taking advantage of so that their general and cosmetic dentistry experience can be as pleasant as possible. Aspenwood Dental Associates provides patients with the option of having any procedure performed while sedated.
Sedation dentistry allows patients to have their procedures performed while they are conscious, but extremely relaxed. This means that although you will be awake during your dental procedure, you won't have the anxiety some patients experience during dental treatment.
During your dental appointment, you will be very relaxed, but you will be able to respond to prompts and questions. Often, many patients are unable to recall much of the procedure.
IV sedation works in a similar manner. Prior to your dental procedure, you will need to arrange a ride to and from the dentist office because the IV sedation will impair your driving. When you arrive to the dentist office, our sedation dentists will prepare your IV so that you can be administered sedatives.
IV sedation also allows you to be conscious during your dental procedure and decreases the anxiety some patients experience during dental treatment.
The Difference Between Sedation and Sleep Dentistry
Sedation dentistry is different than sleep dentistry. This is because sedation dentistry uses sedatives to calm you down so that you are totally relaxed during the procedure, but you will still be awake enough to breathe unassisted and respond to the dentist.
In sleep dentistry, drugs are used to render a patient completely unconscious so that they are not able to feel pain and register commands. Sleep dentistry uses general anesthesia, which requires hospital facilities.
Aspenwood Dental Associates provides our patients with sedation dentistry so that they are able to come to the dentist office and have their procedure performed without any anxiety or fear. Sedation dentistry is perfect for anybody that avoids the dentist office for any reason, including:
- Needs Extensive Dental Work Performed
- Fears the Dentist Office
- Fear of Needles
- Severe Gag Reflex
- Difficulty Getting Numb
Sedation dentistry is the perfect solution for many people. Not only can you experience your next dental appointment in a completely relaxed state, but you can also accomplish much more during your procedure.
For many people sedation dentistry is wonderful because they can complete many of the dental procedures that would normally require multiple visits, in just fewer visits to the dentist office.
